HAIR LOSS FAQs

Frequently asked questions about
hair loss and hair replacement.

What can I expect during my initial hair loss consultation?

Your initial hair loss evaluation is an opportunity for us to get acquainted and is designed to allow us to evaluate your hair loss and understand your goals and concerns. It will typically last between 45 minutes to an hour. It is also a candid question and answer time where you can ask questions about your hair loss and understand and evaluate the various hair loss treatment or hair replacement options available to you, and determine which solution will give you the results you are looking for. Your initial consultation will be private and confidential. If you wish, we encourage you to bring along your spouse or significant other or a close friend to help you as in your hair loss treatment evaluation process.

Norwood hair loss classification scaleWill Laser Hair Therapy Work for Me?

It is important to understand that hair loss is progressive. Once hair follicles have died, there is no way to bring them back to life. Low level laser hair therapy (LLLT) has been clinically shown to stop and in many cases reverse the progression of hair loss by stimulating weak or dormant hair follicles. Low level laser hair therapy has been shown in clinical trials to promote thicker, fuller, shinier, healthier looking hair.

For laser hair therapy to be most effective, treatment in both men and women should begin as soon as hair loss is noticed. Laser hair therapy has the best success rate in men and women who present with hair loss in a Norwood scale 1-3 classification range.

Isn’t a Hair Replacement System just a Toupee or Hairpiece by Another Name?

In the strictest sense, the three terms broadly refer to the same thing.  The social connotations of the terms, however, are light years apart from each other.  In the early years of the 20th century, the term “toupee” was used when referring to a hair piece.  Toupees of the era, however, were so primitive and fake looking, hot, bulky and uncomfortable, that a strong negative stigma came to be attached to the term which has stuck with it to this day. Modern day hair replacement systems are so far removed from the toupees and hair pieces of yesterday, it is like comparing your grandmother’s eyeglasses to modern contact lenses.  From both a technological and aesthetic standpoint, there is simply no comparison.

Will a Non-Surgical Hair Replacement System Look Natural?

Nobody wants to have fake looking hair. That’s why in the hair replacement industry our best work is never “seen.” Nobody can tell that it’s not real, natural, growing hair. At HRC in Roanoke, we offer a complete suite of salon services. Our stylists and technicians will perfectly match your hair color, curl, volume, and texture. Nobody will ever know you are wearing a hair replacement system unless you tell them. Even when you’re climbing out of the swimming pool.

What Will My Friends or Co-Workers Say When I Suddenly Show up with a Full Head of Hair?

Reactions will of course vary. But what we hear most often is “Did you style your hair differently?” Other times people may notice something different about you, but they can’t figure out what it is. It is also not unusual for our clients to refer their friends or family members who have been “let in on” what you did and want to have what you have.

I am Very Embarrassed about My Hair Loss. I Don’t Want Anyone to Know.

All of our services are provided in a caring, confidential, private setting. We take the confidentiality and privacy of our clients very seriously. No one will ever know you come to us to have your hair loss needs taken care of unless you choose to share it with them.  It has often been said that there is nothing more anonymous than entering an office building and getting into an elevator.
